Repeal of Ammo Bill, Petition

From Ride Fast's place.

The bigotry against law-abiding gun owners needs to stop. If this can help in that regard, I'm for it.

Come on board, fellow Kalifornia Gunnies.

The Truth About The Police

Remember our post about the armed homeowner in Oregon scaring off her rapist?

There are probably some out there who cry "Foul! She should've called the cops!"

Here's a deadly myth perpetuated by the Gun Control Crowd: "Just dial 911. That's what the cops are there for. To protect."

Think again.

In the middle of an assault, do you honestly believe your attacker is going to stop and let you call the police?

Are you that naive?

A 2006 DOJ table (PDF) showed the average police response time to a crime of violence (robbery, aggravated assault, or simple assault) was between 6-10 minutes. Response time to a household robbery was 11 minutes to an hour!

An assault can take place and be over in moments. By the time the police arrive, you'll either be injured or dead.

Furthermore, the police don't have an obligation to protect you.

Look up California Government Code 845:
Neither a public entity nor a public employee is liable for failure to establish a police department or otherwise to provide police protection service or, if police protection service is provided, for failure to provide sufficient police protection service.
Don't believe it? Read that again.

Now take a look at some incidents.

Remember the adage: "When seconds count, the police are minutes away."

Now before you LEOs out there start to flame me, let me say this. You do a helluva job out there. If you are there at the exact moment a crime occurs and are able to end it quickly and with minimum damage, you will do so.

But you can't be everywhere at once, 24/7/365. You are not my personal bodyguard.

I don't expect you to be.

Enter the Armed Citizen.

LETHAL LOGIC Fail, Part 1.5

Quick follow-up...

The last post was based on the information in the "myth-busting" section of the Lethal Logic website.

There are no references that indicate where Hennigan got his figures for that example. I'm going to assume (although you know what they say about assuming) that the book will provide references. I'll let you know when I get it.

Until then, in upcoming posts, I'll go through other choice bits from that page. I gotta tell ya, there are some good ones.

LETHAL LOGIC Fail, Part One

Okay okay...

A quick hunt around the Intarwebz brought me to Lethal Logic's website.

Eager to see what sort of things Hennigan talks about, I clicked on the link to "Myth-busting Facts."

I'll look at all of them in due time, but I wanted to point one one of those "facts" here.

Hennigan writes:
Most people assume that gun violence is almost entirely an urban problem, while rural areas have little gun violence though they have lots of guns. But, in fact, rural, high-gun ownership states like Montana and Mississippi have firearm death rates three times higher than urbanized states like New Jersey and New York. Why? Because the gun suicide problem in rural areas is as significant as the gun homicide problem in major cities.
Oooh scary, right?

But I looked at the FBI data on Crimes in the United States and Hennigan is wrong.

Looking at just 2007 and 2008 data in the Expanded Homicide Data tables (scroll down to Table 20, Murder by State, Type of Weapon) gives the following numbers for the states Hennigan mentions above.

In 2007, total firearms murders in:
Mississippi: 119
Montana: 10
New Jersey: 260
New York: 500

In 2008, total firearms murders in:
Mississippi: 142
Montana: 11
New Jersey: 236
New York: 475

Hey, Dennis--you wanna try that paragraph again?

Hennigan Demolishes the Gun Lobby...?

I got an email today from the Brady Bunch*, part of which had the following:
New book demolishes gun lobby's "bumper sticker" logic
Curious, I clicked the link and was told about Dennis Hennigan's book Lethal Logic: Exploding the Myths that Paralyze American Gun Policy which bills itself as
the first book both to acknowledge the profound and deadly impact of the gun lobby’s "bumper sticker logic" and to systematically expose the misguided thinking at the core of the pro-gun slogans.
Even more curious.

I may have to run to my local bookstore to pick up a copy and see just what Hennigan says. And I may make a series about it here.

Watch for it soon.

*In keeping, of course, with the Michael Corleone adage "Keep your friends close but your enemies closer."

Coffee-Fu

Caleb got mugged over the weekend but turned the tables on his would-be attacker.

Good job, Caleb.

There are many lessons here, folks. "Be prepared" is just one of them.

Criminals Don't Care About Gun Laws

Remember when we talked about the so-called "Gun Show Loophole" the Gun Control Morons Crowd likes to wave around?

Remember that little passage we quoted? (It's on page 10 of the report.)

Let's look at that again.

An offender was asked about the ease of obtaining firearms illegally.

"F-- the gun laws," says the offender. "I never gave a sh--- about the gun laws that are on the books."

And yet the Gun Control Crowd continues to tell us that more gun laws will prevent offenders from getting their hands on guns.

Anybody else see a slight disconnect from reality here?

Yes, Dear Readers. You are right.

The Gun Control Idiots Crowd needs to wake up and smell what they're shoveling.

Strict UK Gun Control Results in Armed Patrols vs. Armed Gangs

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, you ask?

No. You read that correctly.

Over across the Pond, our friends in the UK have the best gun control laws according to the Brady Bunch. Public ownership of firearms is strictly regulated. Very strict.

So strict that Paul and Co. tell us the UK doesn't have the same amount of gun crime that we poor U.S. folks have.

That's why
A hand-picked team from CO19, the Metropolitan Police's elite firearms unit, will walk the beat in gun crime hotspots where armed gangs have turned entire estates into "no go" zones.
Says Derek Carroll, head of the new unit
"We are looking at gangs that have access to firearms and will be robust in dealing with them and disrupting and deterring them."
Wait wait wait wait wait.

"Gun crime hotspots?"

Gangs have access to firearms?

But how can that be?

Brady Bunch--how do you explain this? They have really tough gun laws. How could there be access to firearms?

How could there be "gun crime hotspots" with such strict laws in place?

You keep telling us that UK gun control works.

I call "bullshit."

Registration = Confiscation

Yes, Virginia. Registration does lead to confiscation.

"But that's Canada," you say. "That can't happen here in the U.S."

It happened in California and in New York City.

The recent passage of AB962 (also in California) may be part of an incremental step toward that same thing happening again.

Stealth gun prohibition.

"Sneaky bastards," says The Madman.

Gallup Poll: Obama Taking Your Guns?

Here's a CS Monitor report on a Gallup Poll about Obama and the taking away of our guns.

Of note:
Gallup Poll editor-in-chief Frank Newport notes that President Obama has never said — either on the campaign trail or after taking office — that he intends to push for a ban on the sale of all guns. In fact, in May he signed a law allowing people to carry loaded guns in national parks.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that law was actually an unrelated amendment to the original bill, which was the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009.

At the signing:
Obama did not, however, celebrate a gun amendment included in the legislation. The measure by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., allows people to bring loaded guns into national parks and wildlife refuges.
If Obama really doesn't want to take away our guns, why didn't he celebrate that second part of the credit card bill?

If Obama really doesn't want to take away our guns, why does his legislative history include support of gun control legislation?

And why did he serve on the board of the Joyce Foundation?

What say you, Mr. Dave Cook of the CS Monitor?

Newspaper Agrees: Concealed Carry Works

Says the News Tribune:
We concede the point.

Anecdotal evidence does not suggest an increase in accidents or unprovoked gunplay.

The evidence, however, does show people defending themselves from harm.

The message being sent to felons is don't bring a weapon to a crime unless you're prepared to accept the risk.
The Brady Bunch, of course, will continue to deny it.

Gun Control Half-Truths

Here's an example of half-truths from your friendly neighborhood gun control groups.

This one is from the VPC (Violence Policy Center).

They've got a report on Law Enforcement and Private Citizens Killed by Concealed Handgun Permit Holders (PDF file) which looks at news reports between May 2007 and April 2009.

In the report, the VPC review 30 incidents where concealed handgun permit holders killed LEO and/or private citzens.

Wow. 30 incidences.

Go on. Have a read.

Thirty in a roughly two-year span. As the report goes on to say:
Review of the devastating facts surrounding the 30 incidents detailed in this study alone shouldimmediately halt any effort to create a national concealed carry system and, in addition, impel the repeal of state “shall issue” laws allowing the carrying of concealed handguns.
Oh sure. Thirty incidences of concealed handgun holders shooting LEO and private citizens warrants a complete ban of private handgun ownership.

Yet if we take a look at reports collected at the Civilian Gun Self-Defense Blog, we see that in the month of May 2007 and June 2007 there were 91 incidences of handguns stopping either an assault, a home invasion, or a robbery.

Two months. Ninety-one incidences.

This is the other side of the story. The side the gun controllers don't want you to hear about. They'll rail and cry out in anguish over the 30 shootings that took lives and tell you gun violence needs to stop.

But they won't talk about the 91 shootings that SAVED lives.

Gun Control Crowd Would Prefer the Death

Nice shot.

But go back a bit:
The sheriff said the robber had been released from a Nebraska jail just two days before he was killed.
Read it again.

Now it read one more time.

See the problem?

It's not the old man's gun.

It's the guy being released from jail.

Of course, Paul Helmke and Co. would have preferred the goon to kill the old man and his wife rather than have the old guy be armed.

They don't care about people that way.

(via Robb and Jeff)

Gun Control Crowd Would Prefer the Rape

An Oregon woman scares off would-be rapist by firing her rifle at him.

But if you listen to the Gun Control Crowd, she would've been better off not having the firearm in the first place.

They would rather she were raped.

Really.

The Gun Control Crowd will tell you a gun in the home is more likely to be used in a homicide, suicide, or unintentional shooting than to be used in self-defense.

The Gun Control Crowd will tell you not to fight back if attacked by an armed assailant.

Better you were maimed, injured, killed, or raped than--heaven forbid--fight back, especially with a firearm.

Boy howdy, they sure care about your well-being a lot, don't they.

Dissing Sandra Froman

From one of my local papers comes this interesting column.

You might think, "Hey, what a nice report about Froman's visit to Orinda, California."

It is a nice report.

Look how Barnidge opens:
NOT EVERY member of the National Rifle Association is a gun-toting survivalist with an ammo belt slung over his shoulder. Take it from Sandra Froman, who turns that image inside out.
Yup. Good report.

Until you get to the last three sentences.

What begins as a positive story on the 2nd Amendment and gun rights turns into a punch in the nuts.

Barnidge reveals his true colors.

He's a bigot.

More On The "Gun Show Loophole"

Listen to the gun control crowd and they'll continually tell you: criminals get their guns from gun shows.

But in the FBI report Violent Encounters: A Study of Felonious Assaults on Our Nation's Law Enforcement Officer (links to PDFs found here) published in 2006, you'll find the following tidbit in Chapter 4*.

One offender, asked about the ease of obtaining firearms illegally, said:
All these politicians are screaming about more gun laws, more gun laws. F--- the guns laws. I never gave a sh--- about the gun laws that are on the books....I never went into a gun store or to a gun show or to a pawn shop or anyplace else where firearms are legally bought and sold and picked up a gun, ever....No, we ain't going to no store to buy them....there is some gun sellers out there; so, when it comes down to getting the connect, it's not difficult at all.
Now isn't that interesting.

Go on. Read that bolded part again.

And how many times do we have to point out that less than 2 percent of criminal guns come from gun shows?

*If you use the link above, you'll find the quoted section on page 10.

Reaming Individual Rights in the Ass

Found this little nugget over at John Longenecker's place.

The writer, one Nha Huyng, has the balls to say this:
We need to get over our obsession with individual rights and be more sensible regarding campus safety.
You would be in favor of curtailing individual rights? Including free speech?

Probably not.

So how dare you, Nha Huyng.

You dare call yourself a citizen of this country and then spit in the memories of those who died fighting for our freedoms? You shit on the efforts of the men who risked their lives 200 years ago so that we could be called the United States of America?

How. Dare. You.

Get the hell out.

Dear Readers, these are the kinds of people we are dealing with. Those who claim to champion freedom and liberty--but only when it suits them. I'm sure Nha Huyng would be against censorship or that which curtailed freedom of the press.

John was far more gracious in his post.

But not The Madman.

Fuck you, Nha Huyng. Fuck you and all those who think like you.

You don't deserve to be a citizen of this country.

Gun Control Bigotry in Action

Here's a prime example of bigotry from the Gun Control Crowd:
the bill making it harder for criminals and other dangerous people to get ammunition in California.
See the unspoken implication?

Let me break it down for you: "Only criminals and dangerous people buy ammunition. Gun owners buy ammunition, therefore they are criminals and dangerous people."

One sentence criminalizes an entire social group, a group composed of law-abiding citizens.

Bigotry. Plain and simple.

Dirty turds, says The Madman.

Media and Academia Lies About Guns

Here's a piece that does a great job at exposing the lies from both mainstream media and academia surrounding guns.

Read and learn.

Of note was this passage from the original article:
And even at licensed dealers, some with more than 1,000 pistols and rifles at a single booth, there were illegal "straw buys" in which real gun buyers concealed their identities by getting other people to put down their names for the paperwork and background checks.
This called to mind a recent WaPo article in which investigators made straw purchases to prove that straw purchases happen.
It also tested licensed dealers at the same shows to see if they would sell to a gun to a person who was buying the weapon for someone else, or what is called a "straw purchase."
So they performed an illegal act to show that an illegal act can happen? They broke the law and said "Hey look! We broke the law!"

What kind of bullshit is that?

Oh yeah--the kind of bullshit that the gun control lobby believes is okay.

Fucking idiotic, says The Madman.

They should arrest the bastards.

Tiahrt Continues To Piss Off Brady Campaign, Gun Lobby

Our Friend Flicka Paul rants about the lack of availability of gun trace data and I call "bullshit".

Paul complains that the Tiahrt Amendment
unnecessary limits on what government officials can say about such weapons [used in crime]. This secrecy helps keep the public in the dark about the nature of the illegal gun market, and makes it difficult for public officials to formulate policy to disrupt illegal gun trafficking and use.
You'll notice Paul calls it "secrecy" and claims it keeps "the public in the dark."

But if you actually were to look at a gun trace report (California's, for example), you'd notice something very interesting right off the bat (on page 2, as a matter of fact):
(1) Firearm traces are designed to assist law enforcement authorities in conducting investigations by tracking the sale and possession of specific firearms. Law enforcement agencies may request firearms traces for any reason, and those reasons are not necessarily reported to the Federal Government. Not all firearms used in crime are traced and not all firearms traced are used in crime.

(2) Firearms selected for tracing are not chosen for purposes of determining which types, makes or models of firearms are used for illicit purposes. The firearms selected do not constitute a random sample and should not be considered representative of the larger universe of all firearms used by criminals, or any subset of that universe. Firearms are normally traced to the first retail seller, and sources reported for firearms traced do not necessarily represent the sources or methods by which firearms in general are acquired for use in crime.
Important bits in boldface. Pay attention to the boldface!

Got it?

Good.

Now, go read them again.

See why I call "bullshit"?

If you were to just listen to Paul, you'd think all traced guns are crime related.

BUT THEY ARE NOT.

Therein lies the beauty of thinking for yourself.

Of course, Paul and Co. don't want you to know that. They don't want you to know about that little disclaimer from the ATF.

They just want to feed you lies.

They just want to scare you.

Oh--And what the fuck is this category?

"Crime Gun Secrecy Laws"?

Are you kidding me?

Let's start a blog post category of our own: "Paul Helmke's Bullshit."

The Governator is a Bigot, Revisited

That's right.

Arnie is a bigot, as I was saying earlier.

Arnie has just signed AB962 into law, restricting ammunition sales and basically equating all gun owners with criminals.

See, the gun control crowd believes all ammunition is used only for criminal purposes. Therefore, they want to stop its distribution.

Following that train of logic, those who purchase ammunition must be doing so for criminal use. Gun owners purchase ammunition, therefore it follows they will use that ammunition for criminal purposes. Therefore, gun owners are criminals.

By signing AB962 into law, Arnie agrees with that conclusion.

Nice generalization, ya musclebound fucktard.

Y'know, ya made some great movie decisions back in the 80s, Arnie m'boy, but in this instance, you're an idiot.

And a bigot toward gun owners.

So says The Madman.

Want to prove me wrong? Tell me you researched the bill and what it proposed. Personally researched. Tell me you personally studied the issue and didn't let the gun control lobby talk for you.

But no. Your comments say it all:
Although I have previously vetoed legislation similar to this measure, local governments have demonstrated that requiring ammunition vendors to keep records on ammunition sales improves public safety.
No, Arnie, it wasn't local governments. It was the gun control lobby. And you are their sock puppet.

Sock puppet.

You know what that means, right?

It means they have their hand up your ass and they're talking through you.

You have no mind of your own.

Is that hand comfy up there?

Gun Control Is A Joke

Let me say that again: "Gun Control Is A Joke."

My fellow gun rights folks will agree.

Those Dear Readers of mine (all 2 of you) will agree.

But maybe you passers-by may not know this. You, who are just browsing the web and coming across this little corner of cyberspace.

Sit for a moment. Let me to show you. Let The Madman guide you past the lies, the half-truths, the deceptions of the gun control camp.

Let me tell you what they don't want you to know.

So one more time, in large font:
GUN CONTROL IS A JOKE.

Stay tuned and I will tell you more...

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

The Governator Is A Bigot

Yep.

Arnie is a bigot.

More to come.
